Is your property being acquired by the government? We can help.
Eminent domain in Minnesota refers to the State's power over all property within the state. Specifically, eminent domain means the State can take over property for a public use. Sometimes the State gives eminent domain power to certain companies -- typically, utility companies -- so they can acquire property from private owners to run telephone, water, gas, and/or power lines.
In the United States, the owner of any appropriated land is entitled to reasonable compensation, usually defined as the fair market value of the property. Proceedings to take land under eminent domain are typically referred to as "condemnation" proceedings.
